Update on Games: 1/7

Beside the Avon and Danville game, there were two other games of interest that I touched on earlier this week. There is a nice piece of information in there, especially for Purdue fans...

Marion 86 - Oak Hill 71 - The Giants (7-1) controlled this one throughout. They got another huge game from NC State commit Scott Wood, who poured in 31 points, his second consecutive game of 30-plus. He had 36 in their last game against Lafayette Jeff and Jesse Berry. Marion's DavRon Williams had a double-double with fifteen points and ten boards, and JaRob McCallum added eighteen points, nine boards, and four assists. Oak Hill (8-2) will likely drop from their number five rank in 2A. They were paced by Derrick Pond, with 19 points and nine boards, while Jared Perkins scored 18. Leading scorer Eric Doyle (21 ppg) is still out after a violation of team rules.

Bishop Dwenger 55 - Carroll 40 - Dwenger (4-1), the number three ranked team in 3A, got a big win over Ft. Wayne area powerhouse Carroll (6-1), the number fourteen ranked team in 4A. Senior big man and Notre Dame football recruit Tyler Eifert and 6'8" sophomore Tony Springmann led the Saints with twelve points each. Some buzz was created in this game by the presence of Purdue head coach Matt Painter, who was an interested onlooker. Word is he was checking out Springmann, who is a big, strong kid with a ton of potential. The sophomore class in Indiana appears to be a really strong one. Dwenger has a HUGE game coming up tomorrow against Bishop Luers and top-ten junior DeShaun Thomas.

Check back later for previews of some of the top games in the state for Friday, January 9th.
