This weeks' poll asked the question: "Who should be the 2008-2009 Mr. Basketball?" Well, the votes are in and the results are tallied up. The winner? Derek Elston of Tipton High School, the number one team in 2A. Elston is a 6'9" forward who has signed to play college basketball for Tom Crean and Indiana University. He got 113 of the 241 total votes to finish with 46% after a week of voting. Bloomington South point guard Jordan Hulls, another IU signee, finished in second place at 22% with 55 total votes. Third place was for the "Other" category (21% - 52 votes), which I have to imagine were votes, in large part, for LN big man and Louisville recruit Stephan Van Treese. Marion sharpshooter Scott Wood, a NC State recruit, got 8%, or 21 total votes. Thanks for voting, and be sure to vote on this week's poll: "Who is the best freshman in the state?" If you vote for "Other," post a comment to let me know who you are voting for. The choices? The headliners are Broad Ripple's Ron Patterson, North Central's D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, and Fort Wayne South Side's Raphael Davis. Other options include Carmel's AJ Hammons, Southport's Kellon Thomas, Heritage Christian's Joel Smith, or many others. Thanks hoops fans!

Your list was without Byrd of North Montgomery or Bade from FC?
Homer?
not really. first off, i just learned yesterdy that you could have more than 4 options on the poll. i am still pretty new at this. second, bade is not even the best/most important player on his team this year. that award goes to casey coons. also, i guess i could have put byrd on there if i had known there were more options, but historically Mr. Basketball goes to someone who has stats and team success. byrd stats, but his team is very average. ask anyone across the state and elston and hulls will be two of the top 3 choices for Mr.Basketball.
I'm just razzin ya a little. I agree with you that Hulls and Elston will be in the final 3 as Mr B seems to be a political contest anymore. I think if SVT were to stay in state (NO doubt if he were to go to IU) he would be a lock!
Who do you think will be the frontrunners for 2010 award?
i agree about the politcal aspect of the award. i do think SVT is good enough to win this year, and i do believe his chances would have been better had he gone to IU or Purdue, or even ND.
without a doubt, i think the 2010 Mr. Basketball will be between DeShaun Thomas, Dominique Ferguson, and Terone Johnson. I think DeShaun will get it in the end.
Nice work on your blog, but Jake Odum of Terre Haute South needs to be mentioned for your Mr. Basketball poll. Top 5 team in the state, 20 points, 8 assists, 5 boards, 4 steals, pretty good #s, led his team past Lawrence North, put up 38 on Carmel.
yeah, if i had it to redo, i'd add him. like i said, it wasn't until later that i realized i could add more names.
