Update on Games: 1/13

Today will be a big day at P-Hoops, with several updates and articles coming on the Marion County Tournament games I attended, and also the interviews I had with Pike coach Phil Spoljaric, Lawrence North coach Jack Keefer, and LN senior big man Stephan Van Treese. Hoosier fans will be interested to hear what SVT had to say about his entire recruiting process with IU and how he feels about them with his commitment to the Louisville Cardinals. To begin the day, let's take a look at the games outside of the Marion County games I viewed that were considered some of the top tilts in the state.

Ft. Wayne South Side 67 - Ft. Wayne Blackhawk 58 - South Side (2-6) got their second win of the season behind 13 points and seven rebounds from freshman sensation Raphael Davis, who is on the verge of an IU offer according to sources. Blackhawk (5-3) got a nice game from Michigan State recruit Russell Byrd, who had 16 points, ten rebounds, four assists, and two steals, but it was not enough in the end as South Side held on for a big win.

Ft. Wayne Snider 66 - Bishop Luers 56 -This one could be considered an upset even though Snider (6-1) is a top-15 team in 4A, especially since Luers (9-3) was at home. The Knights got yet another huge performance from junior DeShaun Thomas, who had 35 points. Snider was led by Brad Sneary and Spencer Anderson, both with 16 points, and Jonathon Sims with 13 points.

Marion County Games of Note

Warren Central 59 - Lawrence Central 47 - The Warriors (6-4)continued their strong play this season with a win over the Bears (4-5). Coach Greg Graham's Warriors got fifteen points from Javon Brown while LN transfer Marcus Jackson had another big game, scoring twenty points in the loss.

North Central 106 - Beech Grove 61 - The scoring output in this game was the big story as the Panthers (11-0) remained unbeaten on the year. Beech Grove (6-4) simply could not contain all the weapons that coach Doug Mitchell has at his disposal. Freshman standout D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera led North Central with 18 points, while Terone Johnson added eleven. Seniors Damon Ellison and Justin Reid both added eight apiece.

Southern Indiana Conference Tournament

Evansville Mater Dei (6-3) 63 - Evnasville Harrison (6-4) 55
Castle (6-4) 75 -Evansville North (2-6) 59
Evansville Memorial (8-0) 73 - Evansville Central (4-6) 54
Evansville Bosse (6-5) 75 - Evansville Reitz (4-6) 52

Expect a detailed write-up of both the Pike vs. Franklin Central and the Ben Davis vs. Lawrence North games later this morning. Also, look out for interviews with Coach Spoljaric, Coach Keefer, and Stephan Van Treese later today!
