Update on Games: 1/6

The supposed best games of Tuesday, January 6th turned out to be much less competitive than P-Hoops had originally expected. In fact, all four games could be considered blowouts, but there is plenty of good news for those of you who follow IU recruiting, particularly the Bloomington South game. Here's a quick recap of the games.

Bloomington South 99 - Center Grove 52 - This game was never even close, from tip to horn. The great news about this game, for IU fans, was the game Jordan Hulls and other IU potential recruits had. Hulls went off for 26 big points, including six three-pointers while leading the Panthers (8-0) to yet another win. Hulls also added six assists, and then sat out the fourth quarter. Sophomore guards Darwin Davis and Spencer Turner chipped in with 16 and 15 points respectively. The game was made even bigger by IU coach Tom Crean's presence in the stands. He has got to be pleased with his future point guards' play so far this year. Hulls is likely a leading Mr. Basketball candidate, not simply because of his stats, but his teams' number one ranking in 4A. Jared Hawkins led the Trojans (3-6) with 27 points.

Franklin Central 59 - Franklin 43 - The rivalry game did not live up to the hype as the Flashes (10-1) trounced the Grizzly Cubs (2-6) behind 23 points from Taylor-bound point guard Casey Coons. Purdue recruit Patrick Bade chipped in with eleven. Matt Painter has to be looking forward to the size coming in next year, with Bade, LN big man Jeff Robinson, and long, lanky Cathedral swing man Kelsey Barlow. Speaking of Cathedral.....

Cathedral 72 - Indianapolis Northwest 50 - Cathedral (6-1) was playing with a very ill big man, as senior center Errick Peck played through flu-like symptoms all game long, and it showed, going 2-10 from the field. He finished with only six points, but contributed with 13 rebounds. Patrick Paligraf led the Irish with 15 points, while Jarrett Hamilton added 13. Barlow had his season average with 11 points. Space Pioneers (5-4) senior guard Eric Prather scored a game high 21, while Indianapolis Washington transfer Ronald Ross added eleven.

Lafayette Central Catholic 72 - North Montgomery 51 - The draw in this game was North Montgomery's DJ Byrd, a Purdue recruit, playing in front of his future Boiler fans in West Lafayette. Unfortunately, the script did not go totally to plan. LCC senior guard Dru Anthrop had his second 38 point game against a future Boilermaker, as he did it earlier against Barlow and Cathedral when they were handed their only loss. Anthrop also added ten boards, five assists, and three steals in the blowout. The Knights (6-4), the number seven team in 1A, now have a 19-game home winning streak. Word is they get some nice home cookin' at McHale Gymnasium, if you know what I mean. Clay Pierce led North Mont (6-3) with 21 points, while Byrd was hounded into 4-14 shooting, finishing with just nine points.

I will be keeping tabs on a few of tonights' games, as well as being in attendance at the Hendricks County Tournament to see Travis Carroll and Danville take on Kendall Griffin and Avon.
