A few games of note were played last night. One highly ranked team was beaten at home, while two other top teams rolled. Let's take a quick peek at a few recaps of games played on Monday, February 9th.
Covenant Christian 52 - Heritage Christian 41 - Butler-bound big man Andrew Smith was simply dominating in his performance for the visiting Warriors (7-7), scoring 18 points and pulling down a staggering 22 rebounds. Smith was active all night long, controlling the glass on both ends, often following up his own missed shots to get easy put-backs. Heritage, the number four team in 2A, was playing without their leading scorer Tommy Eggleston, averaging nearly 15 points per game, as he sat with a bad case of strep throat and flu-like symptoms. His scoring was sorely missed as the Eagles (12-4) struggled to score, especially from the perimeter, where they were 2-14 from deep. Senior guard Durrel Davis tried mightily to pick up the slack in Eggleston's absence, scoring 13 points in the loss. Covenant, who recently got Smith back at full strength after a foot fracture, is peaking at the right time and look to be a real threat to make a deep run in the postseason.
Ft. Wayne Snider 69 - Ft. Wayne Wayne 55 - Snider (16-1) rolled through SAC play with an undefeated record after winning at home against the Generals (9-6) last night. Jonathon Sims scored 19 points for the 4A number eight ranked Panthers, and Reggie Hearn chipped in with 15 of his own. Wayne was led by DeMarien Smith, who scored 13 points in the losing effort.
Tipton 76 - Sheridan 38 - The 2A number two ranked Blue Devis (16-2) literally doubled up the visiting Blackhawks (5-8) in this Hoosier Conference Game. Still searching for individual stats, so I will update them when they are located.
There are just a few games tonight, so check back later to see which ones are the must-sees for Tuesday the tenth!
