Update on Games: 2/14

Here are the results for Saturday's Top Ten, including some other games and scorers of note. Check it out!

Top Ten

1. North Central 81 - Terre Haute South 62 - Indiana University head coach Tom Crean l(pictured) ooked on as the Panthers (18-1) got an enormous road win against the Braves (17-3) to keep their MIC conference title hopes alive. There is now a three-way tie for the lead in the conference between these two squads and Lawrence North, all 5-1 in the league. Junior guard and Purdue recruit Terone Johnson led the way for the Panthers with 30 points, while freshman D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera added 15 points and four boards. The Braves also had no match inside for 6'8 forward Justin Reid, who finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Indiana State recruit Jake Odum led the Braves with 21 points while sophomore shooter John Michael Jarvis added 14 before injuring his ankle.


2. Batesville 55 - East Central 50 - The Bulldogs, behind Evansville recruit Colt Ryan, moved to 15-2 on the season, while East Central dropped to 11-4.

3. Marion 64 - Logansport 49 - The Giants (15-2) handed the Berries (10-6) their fourth consecutive loss behind 23 points from NC State recruit Scott Wood and 22 points from JaRob McCallum.

4. Carmel 74 - Mishawaka 58 - The Greyhounds (11-6) had a balanced scoring attack led by Robert Kitzinger, who had 17 points. Kentucky football recruit Morgan Newton added 15 points, while 6'10 freshman AJ Hammons, a visitor at the IU-Illinois game, chipped in with ten of his own.

5. Oak Hill 66 - North Miami 58 - This match-up of highly regarded 2A squads was as advertised, as Oak Hill moved to 13-3 and North Miami fell to 12-4.

6. Jac-Cen-Del 74 - Hauser 56 - This game featured two of Class 1A's best teams, with JCD proving to be the superior. They moved to 15-2 on the year, while Hauser fell to 10-7.

7. Ft. Wayne Dwenger 63 - Ft. Wayne Blackhawk 49 -The 3A team triumphed over the 1A team is this Ft. Wayne-area throwdown. Led by big man Tyler Eifert, a Notre Dame football recruit, Dwenger (13-4) prevailed over the tiny private school, led by Michigan State-bound junior Russell Byrd. Blackhawk fell back to .500, now at 8-8 on the season.

8. New Albany 58 - Evansville Central 43 - The Bulldogs (16-0) remained among the ranks of the unbeatens with a big win over Central (8-9). Junior forward Donnie Hale led New Albany with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

9. Avon 53 - Noblesville 51 (OT) - A bucket by 6'7 freshman Austin Burgett with under two seconds to play put the Orioles (10-9) ahead for good in this great game. Sophomore Kendall Griffin scored twelve for the winners, while Burgett chipped in with eight of is own. Noblesville (8-8) was led by junior Leland Brown, who scored 15 points.

10. Bloomington South 77 - Warren Central 44 - The Panthers (17-0) remained solidly on top of their perch as the number one team in 4A, taking it to the Warriors (8-11), who were never in this one. South was led by IU recruit Jordan Hulls, who had his high game of the year with 30 points on 5-8 from deep. Sophomore guards Dee Davis and Spencer Turner chipped in with 12 and seven points respectively, while junior big man Eric Fromm scored eight points. South has a huge game this Saturday against Detroit Country Day, another nationally top-ranked team which features Ray McCallum Jr., the son of the former IU assistant coach of the same name.

Other Notables:

* Broad Ripple beat Bloomington North 82-66 behind three impressive outputs. Senior Howard Stevenson had 25 points and 11 rebounds, sophomore Steven Jamison had 21 points and 16 rebounds, and freshman Ron Patterson (pictured) scored 20 points and dished out eight assists in the win. Julian Boatner scored a game high 29 points in the loss.

* Center Grove beat Terre Haute North behind 16 points from sophomore guard Johnny Marin. The Patriots stud, 6'8 sophomore Justin Gant was limited to five points.

* Howe trounced Crispus Attucks, scoring over 100 points. The Hornets were led by junior guard Andre Hampton who had 28 points, including seven treys.
* Morristown beat Southwestern in overtime 60-58. Freshman Dylan Langkabel, who finished with 21 points, hit two clinching free throws in the win.
