DJ Byrd and Jordan Manuel Updates

One of the P-Hoops Top Ten games from yesterday featured Carmel unexpectedly trouncing North Montgomery 80-45. Purdue signee DJ Byrd was limited to five points on 1 for 11 shooting, and there was more bad news. On the lone shot Byrd hit, the 6'5 senior star apparently tweaked a sore knee, injuring it to an unknown extent. He left in the second quarter after hitting a three over Morgan Newton and falling into a heap on the ground in obvious pain. It is unknown how long Byrd will be out, but with Sectional play starting on next Friday for the Chargers, when they take on the winner of Danville and Crawfordsville, the team hopes he will be able to return. Without him, it's clear that they are prone to struggle, as seen by their struggles with the Greyhounds in his absence. Below is an article from the local newspaper about the game and injury.

The injury bug is out in full force elsewhere. Earlier today, we saw that Terre Haute South's Jake Odum will likely miss the entire postseason, and now there is news that Howe's Jordan Manuel will likely do the same. The broken hand Manuel suffered in practice will keep the 6'9 junior, who boasts offers from schools like Dayton and St. Bonaventure, at least another three weeks. He may be able to return should Howe, a 3A contender, make it past Regional play. The Hornets open next Friday, receiving the bye, and will play the winner of Northwest and Brebeuf Jesuit. Below is the story from the IndyStar detailed the injury.
