Team Update: Zionsville Eagles

One of the biggest pleasant surprises of the basketball season in the Indianapolis area is, without a doubt, the strong play of the Zionsville Eagles. Led by head coach Shaun Busick, the Eagles have turned around their previous losing ways, redefining themselves as the number twelve ranked team in a loaded 4A class. In Busick's previous two seasons at the helm, the Eagles were a combined 17-25, with two first round losses in Sectional play. This year, the Eagles are 14-1 and are tied with Brownsburg atop the Hoosier Crossroads Conference, at 6-1. Led by the high scoring trio of junior forward Chris Welker, junior guard Jack Isenbarger, and sophomore guard Demetrius Lawson, the Eagles are looking to win the talent-laden Noblesville Sectional, which features teams like Carmel, HSE, and the home squad, Noblesville. Both Welker and Isenbarger are potential D1 level recruits, and Lawson appears to be headed in that direction as well. Check out the great article linked below to read about how exactly the Eagles have recreated themselves as a top team in 4A this season. Enjoy!

Thanks for the update, its really amazing the strides the eagles have made. I think most of the credit should be given to Chris Welker. The kid is an absolute beast, I have seen him play a few times he is for real. Isenbarger and lawson are also good. Watch out for Z-ville

who do you think has the most d-1 potential out the three (welker, Isenbarger, Lawson) I'd say welker but the other two are pretty good

I think you have no idea what you are talking about. Iso obviously has the best potential with some work on his 3 pointer and some more experience at point guard he'll be killer. P-hoops awesome site.

there is this kid on the jv team who is suspended indefinatly for stealing a pair of fishers bball shorts. this kid is a complete stud on the zionsville jv team, and i believe his name is jay townsend. Honestly there jv team is two times better than their varsity team

I heard that the person who got suspended was Kennedy.Whoever said that Iso has more potential than Welker clearly has no knowledge of basketball, and probably never seen them play. Jack is really good and has great potential, but the skys the limit for welker. I have followed HS basketball for years, and Welker is a good as they come. In my opinion he is just a good as Deshean Thomas.

i think both welker and jack will end up being good D1 ball players with isenbarger having a little more upside because of the size he has at his position. i agree that if he can improve the deep stroke, which is already solid, he will be a must-get. that said, welker is a BEAST and i love his game. someone is going to be lucky to get him. i think of him as a better errick perck from cathedral. undersized with a non-stop motor.

Thank you for keeping it positive phoops. There are several very good players on the Zville team. Don't forget the Roberts brothers. Without a doubt great hustlers, able to see the court very well..and teams best defense.

One thing to keep in mind about the Welker kid, I believe he is only playing an average of 22 minutes per game for the season. And he is still one of the top 20 leaders in several stats categories in the Metro area..and a few in the state of Indiana. Can you imagine if he played more than three quarters per game...what his stats would be?

wow! i cant beleive that your sleeping on demetrius lawson.. if you been following zionsville high school games demetrius is a beast on the court if they were to pass him the ball when he's open, aau he plays even harder, Jack and Chris is good, but to say that their better then lawson your crazy i'm not saying lawson is better then them both but it's close... potenial d1... lawson will go to a D1 school and stand out. he has an all around strong game i do feel he needs to move back on his 3 pointers work on his ball handeling but he has time...
