Update on Games: 2/11

Wednesday night had an unusual amount of games being played due to the start of Girls Sectionals this week, and a number of top teams went at it last night. There were plenty of outstanding team and individual performances of note, so let's turn our attention to a look at four of the best games from February 11th!

Evansville Memorial 66 - Evansville Mater Dei 55 - As the number six team in 3A, the Memorial Tigers (13-3) were out for revenge against their local nemesis. The Wildcats from Mater Dei (9-6) had taken down Memorial almost a month ago to the day in the championship game of the Southern Indiana Conference Tournament. Despite losing two of their last three, Memorial got a big win in this one behind Trev Wilgus' 23 points. Michael Nesbitt also chipped in 14 points in the win. The Wildcats were led by a double-double from Bryce Huff, who scored 18 points and secured ten rebounds.

Forest Park 59 - Southridge 57 - The Rangers (12-4) played an outstanding game on the road to secure their eighth win in their last nine tries. The 2A number fourteen team from Forest Park came out with superior energy and effort after a twenty minute delay for a power outage and took it to the 3A number three ranked Raiders (12-3). Casey VanWinkle led the Rangers with 15 points, while 6'8 Southern Illinois recruit Jordan Myers added 13 of his own. Southridge was led by a game-high 19 points from Zach Langebrake.

Hamilton Southeastern 70 - Northwest 58 - The Royals (11-6) keep rolling along, winning their fifth straight game, and their seventh in their last eight. They are turning things aroung at the right time, readying themselves for their tough Sectional, which includes Carmel and Zionsville. They were led by Zach Starr and his 24 points. The Space Pioneers (9-9) continue to play up-and-down ball, but were led by guard Eric Prather, who scored 17 points, and wing Ronald Ross with 13 points.

Anderson Highland 39 - Jay County 27 - This defensive showdown went in favor of the home team, the Scots (12-5), who have now won nine out of their last ten games. Jay County (11-4), once a top ten team in the loaded 4A class, has lost four of six, and is struggling to relocate the winning identity that carried them to an early 8-0 mark. Highland was led by Jay Mohr, who had a huge double-double of 18 points and ten rebounds. No Patriot player scored in double figures.

Other notables:

* New Albany destroyed Evansville North 90-39, using a 34-11 third quarter to seal the deal. The undefeated Bulldogs, who are number two in 4A, got 23 points and six boards from highly touted 6'7 junior Donnie Hale in the win.

* Plainfield won their fourth game in a row behind another double-double from 6'9 Albany signee Blake Metcalf, who had 28 points and 18 rebounds. The Quakers got 22 points apiece from Brian Mucho and Chris Page, who combined for six treys in the game.

There are a plethora of fantastic games scheduled for tonight, so be sure to check back later to see previews for the top tips of Thursday the twelfth!
