The Evansville Bosse Bulldogs came into this season with a ton of hype and at one time held the #1 ranking in the 3A class. The talent in undeniable, and the schedule seemed favorable for a monster year. But coach Shane Burkhart has been displeased with his team and their lack of effort and focus at times this season. Monday night was more of the same from Bosse. Six days after being upset by Evansville Memorial, and three days removed from an eight point win over an overmatched Washington squad, the Bulldogs squared off with a 3-1 Gibson Southern squad. This should have been an easy win for Bosse, and for a while, it seemed it would be. Leading by 22 points midway through the third quarter, the Bulldogs were in cruise mode, although instead of maintaining speed, the players seemed to decelerate and let up. Gibson Southern stormed back and cut the lead to 12 with about seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Bosse held on for an 11 point win, 77-66, but Burkhart was incensed. He did not speak to reporters after the game, and his players were off limits too. Bosse has a ton of potential, and there is still plenty of time to realize it. I'm betting they do.
Lost in all the negativity was another great game by senior Jalen Pendleton. He notched a triple-double, with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and ten assists. Quite impressive, considering the lackluster effort.
The Bulldogs will get a chance to redeem themselves immediately, as they go against Mt. Carmel (1-4) this evening. Let's see if the can keep the throttle down throughout the entire game.
