Video Reel: Final Seconds of Barr-Reeve vs. North Daviess

A tragic end. That's all that can be said about the final moments of one of the best games of the postseason. The Barr-Reeve Vikings and the North Daviess Cougars played an epic game that featured great team and individual play, as well as spectacular coaching and execution. It was everything a great high school hoops game should be in the Hoosier state. Then, without warning, controversy hit. As written about this weekend, the final moments of this classic game will forever be marred by a poor call, or a lack of a call, depending on whom you were cheering for. Viking guard Trey Hughes, following a made free throw by Cougar Logan Wagler, caught a pass with about a second to play and fired up a three that swished through the net, beating the buzzer. It seemed cut and dry, especially to Viking fans. Despite the referee raising his arm to signal the potential for a three-pointer, the basket was waved off by the same official, giving the game to the Cougars. In the eyes of some Cougars fans, it shouldn't have even mattered, since the scuttlebutt that night was that there was a travelling call prior to the shot, a claim that was refuted by the officials later. Whichever side you fall on in this debate, it is one that is sure to continue, especially in Southern Indiana, where these two rivals reside and meet year in and year out. Regardless of your opinion, it is, in any case, a shame that this epic clash came down to a whistle, one way or the other. You can form your own opinion on the ending of this game by clicking the link below to see Hughes' final shot. Enjoy!
