Scouting: Heritage Christian

The Eagles first game of the season was a success as they defeated Speedway 63-46. Heriatge is still shaking off the rust with football playrs returnng, and they are dealing with a bevy of injuries, including 6'4" senior Morgan Cook (12 ppg), dealing with a tweaked groin. The game was never really in question from the start, with the Eagles in control throughout. With Cook sitting, other players had to step up in his absence, and senior David Reynolds answered the bell with 17 points, including four three pointers. Three of them came in the first quarter and set the tone for the game. The two top players of recruiting interest in the game were 6'5" senior guard Tommy Eggleston and 6'6" freshman guard Joel Smith, a top 5-10 player in his class. Eggleston looked to still be getting back in basketball shape after leading the football team to the 2A State Championship as a First Team All-State safety. He finished with 13 points, but he was forcing the action instead of letting the game flow come to him, which he will likely do as the season progresses. He is a long, lithe athlete who can finish around the rim, but with his slight frame, he struggles to finish with contact. Smith had a very nice debut, going for nine points and seven rebounds, hitting clutch free throws when the game started tightening up in the third quarter. He is one to keep an eye on in the future. He was able to play the point effectively, and at 6'6" and as a freshman, that is quite a feat. He said he has heard from IU but has the most contact with schools like Xavier and Butler so far. I will have a more complete write up of him in the near future.

The Eagles continue their tough schedule, the hardest in 2A per Sagarin, Tuesday at Columbus East. They boast IU football recruits Dusty Kiel and Duwyce Wilson.
