2012-2013 IU Recruiting Picture

As said in the previous entry, it's almost never too early to start thinking about what players to target in a specific class. With that said, here's a look at some of the top talent in the state for the current freshman and eighth grade class. Since most of these kids are 13-15 years old, there is always a chance that they could not develop as many would believe, and some kids may not be on this list who turn into the next Eric Gordon or Greg Oden. Starting with freshman, here is the list of the top in-state kids for 2012-2013, with notes on a few.

Freshman

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera - North Central- See the blog entry below for more on this stud.

Raphael Davis - Ft. Wayne South Side- This 6'5" super-frosh has had his name on the Indiana basketball scene for a while now. He will be the star for his Wayne team this year. Davis was reportedly one of the many freshman to attend Hoosier Hysteria in Bloomington this fall.

Joel Smith - Heritage Christian- Smith is widely regarded as a top ten talent in the 2012 class. At 6'6", he can play all five positions and looks to play a lot of point guard for this year's #9 2A Eagles. He is a tireless worker with a great attitude, and goes after his man and the ball with tenacity. His shot is improving, and he lacks a bit of explosion, but that should improve as he continues to grow into his frame. He was invited to one of the IU Elite Camps this summer.

Other Freshman of Note

Jordan Price - Lawrence North

DJ Ballentine - Kokomo

DaJuan Marrero - Gary West

Ronald Patterson - Broad Ripple

Austin Burgett - Avon

DJ Neal - Ft. Wayne Wayne HS

Daniel Purvlicis - Noblesville

AJ Hammons - Carmel

Eighth Graders

Brenton and Bryson Scott - Carroll (Ft. Wayne)- These twins are two very explosive athletes that are alread making waves in recruiting. They were both at Hoosier Hysteria this fall. There is some concern that they are done growing at 6'0", but even so, they appear to be high major material.

Zavier Turner - Pike- Many are already calling this eighth grader a future five star natioanl recruit. Coach Phil Spoljaric has a lot to look forward to with Tuner, combining his talents with Marques Teague and Chandler Thomas. The Red Devils future looks bright.

Colin Hartman - Fishers- Another attendee of Hoosier Hysteria, Hartman stands at 6'5", but hopes are that he shoots up into a solid post prospect. He has capable guard skills, but his future is in the paint.

These kids have a long way to go before suiting up for a college squad, and a lot can happen between now and then. These boys, however, constitute some of the top young talent in Indiana.
