Why in the world is Tommy Eggleston on this list?? I was at the Indian Creek sectional and are you serious...if you were there, there is no way you would have included him on this list...

Unfortunately, it looks as though the media is going to give the Mr. Basketball Award to the best senior player on the best team which is fine but they should give it to the best senior player.Period. I am not going to throw stones at high school players because it is not needed. I am sure Hulls is a great player. I know he is a great student and by all accounts is a fine young man. Based by what i have seen (state championship game) he's not Mr. Basketball. Other than the first minute of the game i think about anyone watching the game would have to say he was pretty average looking in his play. I know you can't judge by one game but that is what i have to go by. I have not seen Elston play other than You Tube clips so i can't comment.
In my opinion, D.J. Byrd is the young man who should wear #1. He epitomizes what the Mr. Basketball award should represent. Any of you reading this probably know of his long list of accomplishments so i am going to skip over those and get to the chase. Byrd led a team with very little varsity experience to the regional championship game. He was the only starter returning from 0-7/0-8 season. More than once this year all of the bench consisted of players who played at least 2 quarters of jv the same night. He played and defended every position on the floor at some point. Defend the post, wing or point? He did it. Play the wing, post or point? He did it. Be a leader? Did that for 4years. Guts. Check. He played through a finger injury that was surgically repaired on his shooting hand. Shot free throws...left handed at a 70% clip! Still managed to create shots for teammates and himself during this span. Never complained ..he just played. Tore meniscus in his knee..had surgery ..missed one game and then proceeded to lead his team to a sectional chamionship and then dropped 60 points and nearly 25 rebounds in the regional. Respectful? Thanks managers when they give him a water bottle at time-outs and addresses his elders as Sir. Gets it? Never said no to a little boy or girl asking for an autograph or wanting their picture taken with him. I have seen him play nearly 30 times and i just can't imagine a better player or kid to represent the state of Indiana than "The Byrdman".

I failed to mention that Byrd was voted Academic All-State as well.
